Nepal bags gold award for best response to COVID pandemic
Nepal has bagged ‘Best response to the Pandemic’ gold award for its effective response in finding, aiding and repatriating foreigners stranded in Nepal during the COVID-19 global pandemic. Wanderlust magazine hosted the award ceremony in the ongoing World Travel Mart(WTM) workshop in the UK.
Nepal bagged the gold award overtaking 9 other nominated nations. During the peak of COVID pandemic, Nepal had assisted 1721 stranded tourists from 33 different locations. Also, Nepa had successfully repatriated more than 5000 stranded tourists to their respected home countries through collaboration with various domestic and international bodies.
Wanderlust reports that their judges said: “Their lobbying work on sustainability and tourism development awakened the government to review their monetary policy to support the continuance of their activities which was amazing”, and also admired their “out of the box thinking” when it came to their Stranded in Nepal website.
With Nepal rapidly vaccinating its people, the Himalayan nation has recently reopened its borders for International tourists. While we like to criticize our government officials and politicians sometimes just for the sake of criticizing, Brandguff gives credit where it is due. The award will provide confidence to tourists who want to come to Nepal that it values its visitors!
We had recently talked about the need to transcend our own petty nationalism to establish Nepal as a spiritual travel brand. While the award is a material acknowledgement of our hospitality, it will effectively provide a message to the world that Nepal and Nepalese are here to make your travel safe and that you are still at home!
