Google & Apple fined by Italy for unethical data collection again!
Italy’s antitrust regulator has fined Google and Apple 20 million euros for controversial use of consumer data.
The regulating body said in a statement that both companies have resorted to aggressive and unethical practices for achieving their commercial interests. These tech giants have reportedly violated the consumer code by failing to provide clear information on acquisition and use of consumer data for commercial ends.
The regulating authority stated that terms and conditions of Google account is framed in a manner that users are set up to accept them.
The regulator further added that Apple users do not have a choice to confirm disclosure of their data when setting up their account.
However, both Google and Apple have maintained that they have not conducted unethical practices and will appeal against the antitrust decision.
Google said in a statement it followed “fair and transparent practices to provide users with useful services, as well as provide clear information on their use”.
“We provide industry-leading transparency and control to all users, so they can choose what information to share or not, and how it’s used,” Apple said in a statement, criticizing the regulator’s decision.
