Parag Agrawal steps up as the new CEO of Twitter!
Parag Agrawal, chief technology officer (CTO) of Twitter, stepped up as the CEO of Twitter after Jack Dorsey passed the torch to the immigrant from India. Agrawal joined Twitter in 2011 and was working as its CTO since 2017.
Parag, who himself rarely posts on twitter, emerged from behind the scenes to lead the gigantic microblogging and social networking service. The news came with an element of surprise as he does not come from the ranks of celebrity CEOs such as the man he is replacing (Jack Dorsey).
Agrawal has a major challenge ahead of him with platforms like TikTok and Instagram enticing younger audiences. Moreover, the newly appointed CEO faces Twitter’s aggressive goals. The company aims to have 315 million monetizable daily users by the end of 2023 and double its annual revenue in that year.
“The new CEO will need to work out how to stop his platform being a machine that is routinely and perpetually hijacked to distort the news agenda, produce fake popularity and influence, and provide a warped lens on the world,” said Imran Ahmed, the CEO of the Center for Countering Digital Hate.
Parag has joined a league of Indians that are leading the biggest tech companies of the world, alongside Sundar Pichai of Google, Arvind Krishna of IBM, Satya Nadella of Microsoft, Ajaypal Singh Banga of Mastercard and Shantu Narayan of Adobe.
