Starlink, Elon Musk’s internet company, applies for operating license in India
Elon musk has applied for an operating license for his Starlink internet service in India. Starlink hopes to begin its service in India within 2022, if it gets the operating license.
Starlink uses multiple low orbit satellite networks to provide low latency high speed broadband internet. This service will be especially valuable in remote regions of India, where building traditional broadband infrastructures can be challenging and expensive.
More than 5000 pre-orders from India have already been received by Starlink, even though the company has yet to receive official clearance. Responding to the Indian government’s request to its citizens to refrain from subscribing to Starlink’s service, the company has stopped accepting pre-orders from India on its website stating that they are currently working on obtaining permission from the concerned regulators.
