Instagram’s New feature ‘TAKE-A-BREAK’ for teens
The popular social media app ‘Instagram’ has announced a new feature that will guide parents to manage time spent on platforms for teenagers. The feature will allow parents to see how much time their kids spent on Instagram, set time limits, and even get the remainder to take a break.
Adam Mosseri, the chief, announced the launch of ‘TAKE-A-BREAK,’ which he had mentioned back in November. The features will work in the UK, Ireland, United States, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
The feature will notify someone who has been scrolling for a certain amount of time and ask them to take a break. The part also provides expert help on reflecting and resetting scroll history. The app further allows users to set a reminder for a break.
Instagram will launch the feature for parents from March 2022, which will allow them to see how their child is spending time on Instagram and set a time limit for offsprings’ accounts. However, in the case of reporting and blocking other users in Instagram, teens will have opt-in/out settings whether to notify parents or not. The time-limit setter feature is already available for the app.
The other plan for Instagram is bulk management of Instagram accounts, available from January 2022. The feature will allow users to see all their posts, likes, comments and delete them in several amounts in chronological order. The other issue with teens was related to random tags and messaging. Instagram is also limiting the app’s capability so that people cannot message or tag teens who do not follow them.
The new feature will also include a “nudge,” which will suit those constantly posting on a single issue for a long time. The expansion of quality and sort of nudge mentioned is yet to be announced.
A well-known foundation of the US mentioned their thoughts on Instagram’s new feature. Molly Rose foundation, established in memory of teen Molly rose, who took her own life, appreciated teenagers’ safety features initiative. They also showed their concern regarding the efficient utilization of the feature.
Sarah Goodwill, chief executive of social media consultancy Tribal Impact, praised the new feature of Instagram and said that it would help on isolation problems of children due to social media. Being a parent herself, Miss Goodwill also added that every social media should add such features of monitoring children’s activity.
The Instagram chief, Mosseri, was due to appear before US senators before the ‘take-a-break’ feature was made public regarding public hygiene and safety. The app has been constantly pressurized due to teens’ overtime use. This overuse has affected the online safety and hygiene of many youths. The internal anxiety of teens gets provoked by Instagram, as suggested by a series of revelations leaked documents from inside Facebook.
The questions by senators would have included child safety issues and were expecting to have potential legislative solutions. The timing of such a feature announcement was exciting, and Instagram had something new, meaningful, and needed answers for senators.
