How Shine Resunga is shaping its employer brand to stand out
Attracting and retaining the best human resource talents is crucial for all organizations. Gone are the days when employee satisfaction and retention were presumed to be influenced purely by financial incentives. Modern-day brands need to pay heed to the social, emotional, and psychological needs of their employees to establish an affinity with them. Only then can brands optimize their employee experience to ultimately attract and retain the best talents from the industry.
Employer branding as a strategy is relatively esoteric in the context of Nepal. While the value of companies as “Employer Brands” has always been deep-rooted in the public perception, a few brands have begun strategizing to optimize their employer brand status. Shine Resunga Development Bank is one such brand that has received acclaim for its employer branding strategies.
Shine Resunga Bank Head Office
With Pycus Holdings on the forefront of ideation, Shine Resunga has conducted several employer branding exercises. Here are some of them.
Shine Childcare Centre
Shine Resunga has exhibited benevolence towards its employees by establishing a childcare center in its head office. Even the best-performing commercial banks in the country have not gone to this extent to facilitate maternal employees. Shine Resunga is committed to enabling mothers to fulfill their job obligations without compromising on their motherly duties in the workplace. Maternal employees can use the childcare facility to breastfeed newborns and also leave their children under the care and supervision of a dedicated worker. The childcare facility not only embodies the compassionate nature of the bank but also the effort of Shine Resunga to empower women in its workplace. Female employees can work at their optimum best and compete with their male counterparts when their maternal duties are taken care of in the workplace.
#Life@Shine
#Life@Shine is an employer branding campaign that seeks to enrich the employee experience of Shine Resunga. It is an advent to foster an all-inclusive workplace by the bank. The HR Department of Shine Resunga believes that Life@Shine is a manifestation of the bank’s indiscriminate nature. While many banks of Nepal associate corporate training with the upper levels of the organizational hierarchy, Shine Resunga has engaged staff from the bottom level of the hierarchy as well. Moreover, the staff who participate in training programs are encouraged to share their experiences to ensure that their opinions are heard by the management.

Employee Happiness Index
The employee branding strategies at Shine Resunga are centered around one fundamental principle – Work with a happy mind and soul. Adhering to this principle, The HR Department has introduced an Employee Happiness Index metric to evaluate employees. The metric is inspired by Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness and the core value of the bank’s CEO Mr. Prakash Poudel that one needs to have a happy mind, body and soul to make a meaningful contribution. The metric measures the satisfaction level of employees working for the bank. As per the HR Department, the Employee Happiness Index of the bank measured at an average of 8 out of 10, insinuating an enjoyable working environment. This initiative has received praise from several eminent personalities in the banking sector. Beyond the index, the employee branding strategies of the bank have also optimized recruitment and retention. Mr. Pravash Rai, Head of HR & Branding for Shine Resunga Development Bank noted that vacancy applications have increased by more than 100%. Also, the internal stakeholders are constructively engaging in interactions to continuously improve the organizational culture.
